Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in the GTA for UFC 87

Mauricio Rua is truly a veteran of the sport of MMA.  If you only pay attention to the UFC than the only thing you’d remember of ‘Shogun’ was his lackluster effort against Forrest Griffin back at UFC 76.  If you’ve been following the sport for awhile now, you would remember wins by the Brazilian over Akihiro Gono, Quinton Jackson, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ricardo Arona – all coming under the former Pride organization.  Shogun’s career is basically a highlight reel of knockouts and stoppages over the best the sport has to offer.  Shogun’s UFC career had been seemingly put on hold due to a knee injury suffered before the Griffin fight in his debut for the organization.  We spoke briefly with Shogun regarding when the fans would get another chance to see him in action and he assured us, with the help of his interpreter that he is looking at a December return.  When asked about an opponent he uttered the name of none other than Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson.  Rampage and Shogun have fought before with Rampage being on the receiving end of some vicious strikes coming by way of a flurry of knees with the bout being stopped late in the first round.  This fight is a dream match for fans, and it may happen before we say goodbye to 2008.
